The retailer has a long history of providing apprenticeship training opportunities, with more than 13,000 Asda colleagues gaining a qualification over the last seven years. But alongside programmes from Level 2 to 4 in retail and in distribution, Asda will also offer both existing and new colleagues fully-funded training programmes that you might not expect, with more than 400 apprenticeship opportunities at its head office alone.
These include a Level 7 programme (equivalent to a Master’s Degree) in Data Science, a Level 7 Solicitor apprenticeship and a Level 3 in Software Testing.
Other programmes on offer include a Level 7 Degree Apprenticeship (MBA) in Business Administration, Level 7 CIMA programme in Accountancy and a Level 5 CIPD (HR) programme.
The programmes vary in length from one to six years and provide a range of different entry routes for new and existing colleagues to develop the skills for their future careers.
Product Developer Sarah Eaton, who has started a Food Technical Degree Apprenticeship said: “I have opened up my network in the food industry and made new contacts in a number of different areas. This has also pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and take opportunities I may have shied away from before.”
Kate Fisher, Asda’s Senior Director for Talent & Capability, said: “We all know that the way we shop has changed, and at Asda we want to make sure our colleagues have all the skills they need to offer our customers the great service they expect in this new environment. Through apprenticeships, we’ve seen colleagues become more engaged and our workforce is becoming increasingly multi-skilled. This is vital to make sure we can continue to keep up with the changes we see in retail.”
