We handed over the cheque to the charity at Haldane Youth Services in Jamestown, Dumbarton, which offers low-cost child care for people in the local area and provides nutritious breakfasts during the school holidays and which has benefitted from both Cash For Kids and Asda Foundation funding.
At the launch were Asda Dumbarton store manager Garry Scott and Jason Martin, Asda senior director West Scotland, who chatted to the youngsters and also helped to serve breakfasts.
Cash For Kids is Bauer Radio's network of local charities and Its mission is to respond to the needs of children in our communities, making sure all children live life to the full and acheive their individual potential.
The money from the Asda Foundation will be distributed to groups, organisations and projects throughout Scotland.
Debbie Fraser, regional charity manager for Cash For Kids, said “We have been working closely with the Asda stores in Scotland for over 15 years and the support they give to Cash For Kids is invaluable. This money that we have been awarded by the Foundation will help us increase the amount of children we support during the school holidays and allow us to support a further 54 grassroot community groups who are ensuring children receive food and activities when away from the security of school.”
Annmarie Rocks, of the Asda Foundation, said: "Asda in Scotland has a long-standing relationship with Cash For Kids and the stores fundraise for their Christmas appeal, they support loads of groups around our stores and with the increase in need for support with children to have a meal in the school holidays the trustees are delighted that they can support Cash For Kids to deliver these funds to the groups. They make a real difference."
Sharon McMillan, project co-ordinator for Haldane Youth Services, said the money received from the Asda Foundation and Cash For Kids was vital. She said: "Our young people have had a truly amazing fun-packed summer which couldn't have happened without the support of both of the fantastic organisations.
"Cash For Kids support our young people to have a wonderful day trips and the Asda Foundation have supported our young people all summer to have healthy breakfasts as well as supporting the launch of our lunch clubs."
Other clubs which will be getting much-needed Cash For Kids funding are Motherwell Football Community Trust, North United Communities and REACH Lanarkshire Autism.
