Modern slavery is: “a serious crime and gross violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain”


It includes: Slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, debt bondage and human trafficking

Modern slavery is a complex issue that is estimated to impact over 40m people worldwide and 136k in the UK.  All suppliers to Asda should be aware of this and we are pleased to offer


FREE online web-based training modules in collaboration with Stronger Together and Walmart to support our suppliers and your own supply chains to educate and raise awareness of the issues.

A foundational level e-Learning that brings awareness to the challenges surrounding Modern Slavery.



Learn potential forced labour indicators across various supply chains in specific industries. This intermediate-level module will share insight into the world of forced labour and what you can do to help combat this issue.


Please be aware of the following indicators of modern slavery and what to do if you have concerns for someone’s safety.  


Someone in conditions of modern slavery may:  Show signs of physical or psychological abuse  Appear malnourished / unkempt, anxious / agitated and seem withdrawn   Have their movements controlled / restricted  Be under the influence of others  Live in dirty and cramped accommodation  Appear reluctant to seek help  Avoids eye contact or communication
